Esta música magoa.

Como uma história tão simples, tão simplesmente sussurrada pode ser tão poderosa. Tanto se podia dizer sobre isto. Como "those singing morphine alarms out of tune" ou "i should have quit but instead I took care of you" resultam tão bem.

Fico com aquela sensação quase dejá-vu de todas as cenas de cinemas que vi em que alguém morre num hospital, na minha cabeça. Especialmente a imagem de uma mão dada entre um paciente com uma bata branca e outra pessoa sentada, ao lado, numa cadeira. Como se tivesse vivido isso over-and-over again. E é um sentimento tão forte, é daquelas imagens que resultam e que vem tão cruelmente esbatida nestas letras. Dói.

Acho também incrivel a forma como a canção acaba com o (maravilhoso) "You made me sleep and uneven, and I didn't believe them / When they told me that there was no saving you." E como, passados os segundos que ficamos à espera de ouvir mais letra, percebemos que não há mais. Ficas-se com aquela sensação de aperto - "aaah..".

Outra coisa interessante é a diferença da versão de estúdio (o primeiro link) do segundo video - live. Se a versão de estúdio tem o tom de voz quase inexistente que funciona tão bem (e que eu prefiro) a live também traz umas surpresas. Na versão de estúdio (que tem de ser ouvida imperativamente) ouve-se, como eu não me lembro de ter ouvido noutra canção, a voz de tal forma murmurante que os lábios e a língua quase são visíveis, é fascinante. É tão íntimista.

Na versão live adoro a forma como o Peter Silberman sobe o tom de voz (apenas?) no verso "you said you hated my tone, it made you feel so alone" e como me faz pensar que esse é o único verso em que a canção inverte o sentido. Que até aí "ele" está lá a apoiar o outro no seu sofrimento e a ajudar e tal, mas aí, é "ele" que causa esse sofrimento - que está errado, não é para isso que ele lá está - e a coisa inverte-se, "ele" sofre por saber que agora é "ele" o causador do sofrimento (e por isso grita, lol).

Estou, claro, apenas a imaginar, mas na minha cabeça isto resulta tão bem.

Adoro, adoro, adoro isto. Podia ser a canção do Super-Homem. "Eu protejo-te." Não queremos todos isto?

Sim, é um remix. Mas é um remix de tal forma maravilhoso que dá ainda mais encanto a uma música que só por si já puxava tanto amor.
Trás aquela vibração de dança deprimente e viciante que eu não consigo resistir.

É perfeito ficar-se absorvido na voz dela e no vibrar do ah-ooooooh sofrido até percebermos exactamente o que é que a Santigold está efectivamente a cantar e aí, sim, entram os arrepios.

Nesta versão remixada o fim é OH-MEU-DEUS tão incrivelmente delicioso. Até porque segundo consta "Jesus Pieces" pode, como dizem as internets:

It's hard to express how much I love this song. In most of The National song's most of the time the lyrics don't make much sense until some little sentence (like this one - or like the "break my arms around the one I love in Daughters of The Soho riots) and everything sudently gets perfect.

Sometimes I feel "We're half-awake in a fake empire" could resume most of my life. lol? bah It's just so pretty. (:

I love love love this song. I meet the band when they were opening for Interpol and suddenly my love for Interpol was replaced by love for Blonde Redhead (not all, though :P ).
I think the song is about an abusive relationship, but who knows. It just feels so right.
